Why our tallow is truly premium

At Ivory Clay, we use the word premium to describe our tallow creams because the quality of the fat matters—and most brands cut corners. Many competitors use ordinary trim fat or mixed scraps not approved for true tallow-based skincare, claiming "fat is fat." But this simply isn't true. Different fats have different molecular structures, nutrient profiles, melt points, and skin-compatibility levels. Using the wrong type of fat leads to greasy, or unstable creams that lack the therapeutic benefits people expect from tallow skincare.

True premium tallow comes from suet, the dense, clean fat that surrounds a cow's kidneys. It is the most nutrient-rich fat a cow produces, exceptionally high in vitamins A, D, E, K, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), palmitoleic acid, and bio-identical lipids that closely mimic human sebum. And here's the challenge: a single cow yields up to only three (3) pounds of real suet, making it rare, limited, and far more expensive to source. Competitors who use cheaper fats avoid this cost—but in doing so, they also lose the purity, stability, and skin benefits that suet uniquely offers.

Because we insist on using actual suet tallow, we're able to deliver creams with superior texture, absorption, and effectiveness. Suet renders into a cleaner, silkier, more stable tallow with none of the graininess or greasiness common in low-grade fats. It blends seamlessly with our oils, whips smoothly, and melts effortlessly into the skin without heaviness. This is why our creams have more of a luxurious texture, instead of greasy.

Using authentic suet also preserves the science-backed benefits that make tallow so powerful for skincare: its bio-identical fatty-acid structure supports the skin barrier, restores moisture, and promotes natural healing. When you choose premium tallow, you're choosing the version of tallow that the body recognizes and uses best. For us, "premium" isn't a marketing word—it's a standard of purity, performance, and integrity that we refuse to compromise.
